As much as I love singing along (at the top of my voice, usually with a dance involved) to Mariah Carey’s ’All I Want For Christmas Is You’, for some weird reason, my fantasy Christmas is always set in the 1950′s. Carols and Christmas songs are sung by Judy Garland, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.
This perfect soundtrack means that there are also never tears or tantrums. Children sit on the floor unwrapping their presents, little girls with big bows in their hair and matching smiles. A relaxed and perfectly coiffed wife in a stylish, hourglass dress wears a cute little apron as she serves homemade cookies and heavily laced eggnog (that she’s merrily sampled all afternoon).
Her appreciative husband sits in a chair, smoking a cigar (one that smells nice and doesn’t cause diseases) and their small son sits on one knee, happily holding his new toy car.
That this is so far from my reality makes me ponder… then realise that my reality right now is actually pretty darn awesome. It’s a cliche but all I’m dreaming of a peaceful, safe Christmas for all my loved ones.
However you’re spending your Christmas, I hope it’s merry and bright.
Thanks for all the support and love this year – It really means the world to me. Bec x
